about

This is the TJ Rehmi debut album, recorded in the early 90's, and first released on Nation Records in 1998. This version has been re-edited and/or re-mastered for this particular release by the artist. The release date of 1998 has been used to reflect the period in which the compositions were actually created.

Here are a few of the many reviews from that time:

" "My only barrier is your mind" states TJ Rehmi on the sleeve of his debut album ... Rehmi gets it right with the highly underrated Asian Drum n Bass masterpiece, The Fusionist, and displays a bewildering variety of influences - from classical to folk, hip hop to be bop, bhangra to chill out. For those who thought UK Asian music stopped at bhangra, this will be an eye opener and Rehmi delivers his own commentary on it in the block-rocking 'Who Killed Bhangra' " Tower Records/TOP

" ... is it jazz or drum n bass? Asian Classical or New age? Funk or Folk?... dimly aware of TJ from an appearance on last years 'Outcaste Untouchable Beats' ... nothing had prepared me for the astonishing vision and scope of his album" Folk Roots

"He keeps it minimalist, never od-ing on the cultural feast at his fingertips, and revealing a talent that makes this a must" D+ Magazine

"If played loud enough to the current Indian and Pakistani governments, would stop the escalating nuclear bomb-testing farrago ... there's nuff affecting fallout coming out of Rehmi's assorted Eastern thythms to induce flailing around like demonic dervishes without any radiation sickness to contend with" Melody Maker
